It has surely happened to you more than once: go get your towels after taking a shower and notice that they smell bad. Also, when you try to dry yourself off, they absorb almost nothing. Even being new they can present this very classic problem.

How can we make our towels always smell good ? What tricks are there to make them soft and absorb all the moisture from our body? Today in our space we want to give you some sensational tips that will be very useful on a day-to-day basis. Your showers and baths are now going to be much more pleasant.

Natural solution to get softer, absorbent and odor-free towels

It is very common that when buying new towels or bathrobes we notice them very rough. This is basically due to the dyes that are used to make it. Hence, many people prefer to first put them in the washing machine with hot water so that they are a little softer.

The truth is that the type of material with which our towels are made does not matter. Whether they are American curl or another type of fiber, all, on some occasion, end up retaining moisture and smelling bad. In addition, we run the risk that, with this humidity, bacteria appear. What can we do then? Don’t worry, take note of these simple suggestions.

Ingredients we need

  • 1 cup of white vinegar (250 ml).
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda (125 g).
  • Hot water.

How do we do it?

Baking soda helps us keep our towels free of bad smells and bacteria.

  • We are going to use the washing machine. You can put the new towels that you want to soften or those that are old and smell a little musty and that have stopped absorbing as much as before. We will program the washing machine in the hot water option. Then, we will load it with the white vinegar, previously diluted in a glass of water. Let the washer go through a full cycle. As simple as that.
  • The next step is also very simple: We will start a new load also with hot water. But, this time, we will add the baking soda. It is important not to mix the two elements. Wait for it to finish, then lay your towels outside. You will see what a good result it offers you!

Why is this method suitable for making towels more absorbent and smelling good?

Vinegar is excellent for restoring our towels to their absorbent capacity.

We are sure that you already knew many of these tips, but it never hurts to consider how we can take a little better care of our towels. Remember that the moisture that is often retained in them can cause the dreaded bacteria to accumulate. This leads to subsequent allergies, infections and unpleasant reactions that are worth avoiding.

    Remember

    • Bacteria love moisture,  so every time you shower or bathe, hang the towel outside to dry completely. You don’t need to wash them every time, the important thing is that they dry completely, without getting wet in any corner. Otherwise, bacteria, bad smell and risks will appear.
    • You must be careful not to put too much detergent when you wash them. What detergents actually do is accumulate chemicals that, in the long run, clog the fabric of the towel. This makes it rougher and clogs the grain, preventing water from being absorbed. So remember: detergents, the fair ones.
    • As for fabric softeners, we recommend that you replace them with white vinegar.  It is more natural and softens the fibers of the towels much better without producing any negative effect. The towel will last longer, will be more pleasant to the touch and will continue to absorb water in a very adequate way. Take into account, for example, that with the bathing clothes of babies or children, we must take special care. Replace chemicals like these softeners or detergents with more natural elements. You already know that baking soda, white vinegar and even lemon are perfect and healthy allies for daily household cleaning.

And we pollute less! Do we put it into practice?
