The Worst Storm Is The One That Forms In Our Mind

By thinking too much and thinking about problems, we turn a simple cloud into the worst storm. Learn to value things in their proper measure.

In our mind the worst storm and the worst possible scenario are always formed, there where  the dramatization and intensification of emotions is served. Let’s imagine that we have gone through a love breakup. At the time, we had a very bad time, we thought we were dying and that the world was upon us.

However, how do we see it now, after a few years? We note that it has not been so much, that we exaggerate too much. This is so because the worst storm is not the one that really happens, but the one we recreate in our minds.

The worst storm that we have trouble getting out of

Why is it so difficult not to fall into this kind of vicious circle? Why do we always end up intensifying what actually happens, thus suffering much more? The answer is simple, t endemos torturing and take of its proportions what happens to us. We focus on what happens to us, what will happen next and what happened before.

In this way, our thoughts go round and round without stopping,  and the most negative ones occupy a large part of our mind. In all this, emotions have a fundamental part of guilt, but perhaps because we do not know how to manage it in the correct way.

Instead of giving ourselves a break, trying to clear our minds, we let ourselves be carried away by what we feel and give free rein to our imagination. The example that we have given before will expose how the person possibly  tortured himself thinking about the reasons why the relationship broke up.

Possible infidelities, doubts about the veracity of the relationship and an atrocious fear of the future that he glimpsed would surely come to mind. He felt so much at that moment, he lived it so intensely, that he was afraid of being without that person, of continuing his life without her by his side. But sooner or later, all these thoughts dissipated and what I was thinking about became a bitter memory.

See reality as it is

With feelings and emotions involved, we do not see reality as it is. We cloud it with our thoughts, fears and doubts, our ideas without reason. Why after a while do we do it? Because there has been a space, an elapsed time that now allows us to see what happened from another perspective.

Right now we are no longer distressed or sad. Anger and rage do not consume us and we can see things clearly. This is what we would have needed at the time. But, we prefer to let ourselves go and torment ourselves in order to suffer more.

Life does not end. We believe it that way when negativity makes an appearance and we retain it, we trap it. It is normal that we end up consuming ourselves, because that is what bad emotions do. Not releasing them, preventing their release, ends up causing us to poison ourselves with them.

The importance of taking care of your thoughts

Worrying about what happens in our mind is something important that we should not ignore. Controlling thoughts, knowing how to observe them to release them, will help us to be assertive and see solutions in the midst of chaos.

Let’s do a visualization exercise and think that that worst storm inside our head is like a very messy room. If you do not put order, what you would do is move things from one place to another, until, in the end, taking from here and there, all the chaos would get worse and greater.

The solution? Start organizing everything, little by little, putting everything in its place. It would cost us work, but we may even realize that there are some who are occupying an unnecessary place. How about we throw them away? This simple and practical visualization exercise will help us to put order to all those thoughts that spin without stopping.

It is complicated, but with practice we can obtain very beneficial results. Clear your mind, open your eyes and perceive reality as it is, without additives of any kind that turn it into a storm devised by our imagination.
