10 Tips For Caring For Wooden Furniture

Wood has been and always will be synonymous with elegance for a home. If you have to choose between a steel table and a wooden table, your best choice will always be wood.

Wooden furniture is essential in your home because of the touch of personality that they give it. To take care of wooden furniture, we invite you to follow these 10 tips that we present below.

1. Clean your wooden furniture every day

Even if you don’t see it, your furniture accumulates dirt every day from dust. Caring for wooden furniture involves cleaning it every day. If you allow dirt to build up, they can become dingy and can even form stains. It won’t take long to wipe the surfaces with a dry cloth to remove the dust from the day.

2. To take care of your wooden furniture, protect it from the sun and water

This seems obvious, but over time the sun dries out the wood and causes it to shrink, causing cracks that later cause the furniture to spoil. Water also causes wood to warp.

However, you should not only protect them from “not getting wet” but rather that the place where you are is not very humid. Moisture can cause wood to crack and soften.

3. Remove them from heat sources

The reason is very simple and has to do with what we mentioned in the previous section.  The heat will cause the wood to shrink and spoil.

4. Move them away from the air conditioner

Wooden furniture fades if it is also in constant contact with air. Remove them from anywhere there is a constant air conditioner or draft.

5. Use ammonia-free cleaning supplies

Read the labels on wood cleaners carefully and make sure they are free of ammonia. Although it is advertised to clean wooden furniture,   in the long run,  ammonia will deteriorate the furniture, taking away its shine and color. We recommend that you instead opt for non-abrasive cleaners.

6. Use paste wax

Make sure to remove all dust from your furniture first before proceeding with the wax. Then apply it evenly using a fiber cloth or blanket. If you do this once a week, you will have furniture with its original appearance for many years.

7. Move them very carefully

When you have to move them, it is important to take care of the wooden furniture. When transporting, be very careful as a blow can hurt the wood and cause cracks. So be careful not to make sudden movements.

Remember that it is more convenient to load them than to drag them. If the furniture is very heavy, it is best to put tires on it to avoid the risk of hitting something and scratching it.

8. Do not put hot containers on them

Stain on wood

There are insulators or cloths to place the hot containers on the wooden table. If you put them directly, you will cause a stain on the wood. Unless you sand and varnish the damaged surface again, the stain won’t go away.

Even if you use insulation, the heat will pass through the fiber and cause the wood to swell. Likewise, the wood could also become discolored or softened, causing unpleasant stains on the wood.

9. Clean up spills or stains immediately

If you really like to enjoy a delicious coffee and put the cup on your wooden table, be careful. It is preferable that you place a plate under your cup. Similarly, if you have a minor accident and the coffee spills on your table, wipe it up immediately. Caring for wooden furniture means avoiding spilling liquids that could stain it.

If any liquid is spilled, collect it and do not let it dry on its own. If you let it sit for too long, the stain can penetrate the wood, leaving a nasty mark.

10. Moving? Take good care of your furniture

When moving workers move your wood-based chair, make sure they do it correctly and under supervision. It is best to lift the furniture between several, depending on the weight, rather than dragging it.

You can tuck large wooden furniture that is moving with the help of a rug or blanket. This will prevent the wooden part from being scratched during transportation.
